We are so honoured and proud to have received the 2021 NECA WA Excellence Award for HEALTH & SAFETY Best Practice.

Our nomination was for our Brightwater Care Group Ltd. Project at Brightwater Madeley that was completed at the height of Covid-19 last year. It was a difficult time for everyone however the safety and well-being of our clients and team shone through.

Scope of works performed

This project incorporated a new lighting design and new fittings, and a KNX lighting control system that can be monitored remotely offsite, controlling the automated dimming with ambient light levels preset to dim at certain times during the day. The result was a drastic improvement to lighting levels, increasing the comfort of staff and residents and reducing operating and maintenance costs.

Scope of works

  • Installation of automated KNX lighting system
  • Replacement of existing fittings with LED
  • Upgrade of AV systems
  • Site was “live” with residents in care, requiring careful planning with key stakeholders

Project Description

This project incorporated a new lighting design and new fittings, and a KNX lighting control system that can be monitored remotely offsite, controlling the automated dimming with ambient light levels preset to dim at certain times during the day. The result was a drastic improvement to lighting levels, increasing the comfort of staff and residents and reducing operating and maintenance costs. Working on a live site with people living there full-time is complex especially when Covid-19 hit in February 2020.

Covid-19 has introduced a new set of challenges and restrictions on what was already a demanding project.  New protocols meant staff were limited to specific work times and areas and additional cleaning requirements reduced the number of hours available. Detailed but flexible planning and preparing became critical, especially during the sudden lockdown.

Our proudest achievement for this project was the 100% recorded compliance with the safety initiatives implemented for COVID. Our entire team worked together, from management offsite to the team members onsite, to ensure that compliance to strict protocols was maintained at all times. Successfully managing COVID-19 on our projects has required a very high level of management buy-in and our entire team rose to the occasion.

Statement by Managing Director Simon Brice

“Winning this award will recognise our team’s hard work and effort over this past year. It was a difficult year; however, it had many positive outcomes. The challenges we faced helped us to improve all our systems and as a result our business made significant moves forward.  It is a real credit to our team and we are very proud of what we have achieved.”
